
About Dr. Utley
Dr. Utley is a Board-Certified Prosthodontist with over 22 years of clinical experience, serving both nationally and internationally as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Utley earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. She completed advanced residency training in Prosthodontics at Fort Eisenhower, Georgia, and later earned a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Throughout her distinguished military and academic career, Dr. Utley held four adjunct clinical faculty appointments, contributing to the education of dental students at multiple institutions. She also served a six-year term as Deputy Consultant for Prosthodontics to the U.S. Army Surgeon General.
As one of the few Board-Certified Prosthodontists practicing in Hawaii, Dr. Utley brings a patient-centered, evidence-based approach to care at Hawaii Family Dental in Kapolei. Embracing the local “ohana spirit,” she offers evening and weekend appointments to accommodate families with non-traditional schedules. Her clinical expertise ranges from routine to complex restorative and prosthodontic cases, and she is committed to improving systemic health through comprehensive oral care.
Dr. Utley holds dental licenses in Hawaii, North Carolina, Georgia, and Maryland. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a fellow of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, the American College of Prosthodontists, the International College of Dentists, and the American College of Dentists. Her professional memberships also include the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, Academy for Sports Dentistry, American Dental Association, Association of Army Dentistry, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Outside of her clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Utley enjoys supporting University of Hawaii athletics, hiking with her family, and photography.

Prevention & Wellness Care
Focus on early detection and long-term health by providing preventive dental services that support both oral and systemic wellness. This includes promoting semi-annual check-ups, professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and oral cancer screenings. Additional support includes nutritional counseling, tobacco cessation education, oral hygiene instruction, blood pressure and diabetes screenings, and collaboration with other healthcare providers. Emphasis is placed on educating patients and encouraging consistent follow-up to foster sustainable healthy habits.
Comprehensive Restorative & Rehabilitative Care
Diagnose and treat existing dental disease through restorative services such as periodontal therapy, fillings, and root canal treatments. Address complex esthetic and occlusal concerns, including the replacement of missing teeth due to disease or trauma. Treatment options include dental implants, crowns, bridges, and removable prosthetics, often employed in a multidisciplinary care model. Each plan includes long-term maintenance protocols designed to enhance oral function, comfort, and quality of life.
Oral Appliance Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Support the medical management of mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) through the design and fabrication of custom prescription oral appliances, such as mandibular advancement devices (MADs) or tongue-retaining devices (TRDs). Patient comfort is a priority in material selection and appliance design. Ongoing collaboration with sleep physicians is integral to ensuring effective long-term management, improving both sleep quality and overall health.
Non-Surgical Management of TMJ & TMD Disorders
Evaluate and treat symptoms related to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) using a multidisciplinary diagnostic approach. Advanced imaging is employed to assess joint anatomy, disc positioning, and detect any pathology. Non-invasive treatment options include occlusal splints, physical therapy, pharmacologic support, and behavioral modifications such as stress management and dietary changes, all aimed at restoring comfort and function.
